Welcome! My name is Laurie and I am an American transplant living in Italy. If you love food, particularly Italian, exploring recipes, and Italy then this is the place for you. This blog is a chronicle of my adventures, well maybe more often misadventures, in embarking on a new and exciting journey. After nearly two decades of working overseas in developing countries, I had a mid-life awakening and decided to go back to school. It was originally meant to be a year long pause to catch my breath and reinvigorate the passion for my work. So, in the span of one month, I quit my job, packed up all of my worldly possessions into one suitcase and booked a ticket to Rome to attend a one year Masters program in Economics with the full intention of going back to my job and my life.
Fast forward four years. I am still in Italy, happily married to an Italian, live between Rome and Milan, and have a wildly entertaining Labrador puppy (well more like 40 pound beast) named Loki; although in my usual untraditional fashion it was done in the complete opposite order…dog, house, then marriage. I took the path less traveled which is pretty much par for the course for me and I definitely can’t complain as it has definitely made for a lot of interesting adventures along the way!
Like so many people, food has always been a passion of mine…both cooking, exploring new recipes, and of course eating! While this blog’s main focus is about food and my journey to become a proper…or at least better cook, it is also about exploring Italy and my daily (mis)adventures. I hope that each blog post will give you a little nugget you can take away; whether it is a recipe to try; a new place in Italy to explore or maybe an idea that sends you on your own journey and exploration.
So let the journey….and eating begin! Buon appetito!
